Challenges in Pre-Analytical Error Detection: Impact of Hemolysis and Potential Solutions
July 30 | 1:45–2:45 PM CT
Exhibit Hall, Theater 1
What might you be missing in your point-of-care blood gas results? This workshop will focus on the challenges in pre-analytical error detection, including hemolysis, its prevalence and impact on clinical outcomes. Current strategies and a new technology to detect hemolysis to mitigate risk at the point of care will also be discussed.
Workshop Objectives
- Describe impact of hemolysis on whole blood potassium results
- Identify challenges in current practices to assess invitro hemolysis
- Evaluate a new technology to detect hemolysis at the point of care
