About the Position

Overview

Position Summary

The Logistics Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily activities within the distribution center. Responsible and accountable for the coordination and direction of all shipping activities toward the achievement of maximum on-time delivery, highest efficiency of operations, and assurance of product integrity during transit through the selection of adequate packaging methods. Also responsible for the receipt, storage, and inventory control of product within the distribution center.

 

A well-organized team member with hands-on presence to develop a higher performing warehouse operation that meets organizational goals, increases customer satisfaction, improves efficiency, and streamlines operations. Supports, initiates, and drives operational excellence best practices deployment. Under the direction of Department Manager, responsible for developing, documenting, and implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to ensure client requirements are met and exceeded.  Works independently with general direction from management.  Activities are performed in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs), Quality Systems Requirements (QSRs), and all safety and administrative policies & regulations.

Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities

  • Supervises warehouse associates to achieve the timely receipt, putaway, and shipment of product while attaining productivity and quality standards.
  • Responsible for the daily scheduling of the workforce to ensure proper staffing to support daily workload requirements. Manages department schedules to ensure department goals are met, responsible for approving schedules, time off, overtime and timekeeping reporting.
  • Responsible for promoting and realizing a safety-first culture. Monitors staff to ensure work is conducted in a safe manner.
  • Responsible for ensuring warehouse personnel have safe and effective equipment to perform distribution functions.
  • Trains and guides warehouse team to identify and develop opportunities for continuous improvement (CI). Acts as CI champion for the department.
  • Recommends and implements systems and process improvements within the distribution center.
  • Responsible for employee development, including training, coaching, meaningful feedback and development, counseling, completion of performance appraisals and team development activities.
  • In conjunction with Manager, develops methods of measuring and reporting operational effectiveness.
  • Tracks and reports distribution center performance metrics, measuring key performance indicators and publishes/presents to various levels of management.
  • Recommends and implements programs, policies, and strategies to increase production and efficient space utilization.
  • Maintains finished goods warehouse and cold rooms in a clean and functional state, including complying with all assigned plant-tool tasks.
  • Collaborates with other departments to ensure business unit and company-wide quality, cost, delivery, and personnel goals are met.
  • Drafts work instructions, business process documents and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Responsible for staff training to ensure competency. Ensures staff compliance to training requirements.
  • Ensures a culture of compliance with applicable Inova SOPs, ISO, FDA and other Quality Systems Regulations, as well as with applicable Environmental Health & Safety, Human Resources and all other regulatory and company policies.
  • Reflects the company values and serves as a role model to staff and customers.

Minimum Education, Experience, Skills & Knowledge  

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Business, Logistics, or related field or equivalent combination of experience and education.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in domestic and international shipping/receiving functions required.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a supervisory role required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with dangerous good shipments (air and ground). DOT/IATA certifications preferred.
  • Certified in forklift operation preferred.
  • Experience in cold-chain logistics preferred.
  • Experience working in an FDA regulated and/or life sciences environment preferred.

Skills or Knowledge

  • Proficient knowledge of ERP systems required; SAP preferred.
  • Intermediate level expertise using Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel required, advanced skills preferred.
  • Proven experience in Lean Six Sigma/Continuous Improvement methodology preferred.
  • Ability to develop, maintain and report meaningful metrics required.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving skills required.
  • Strong communication, and cross-functional project and team leadership skills required.
  • Able to lead teams and guide them to success required.

 

Management has the discretion of substituting relevant work experience for a degree and/or making exceptions to the years of experience requirement.

Salary Range:

 

The salary range for this position is currently $70,000-$95,000. Individual compensation is based on experience, skills, knowledge, education, certifications, span of control, complexity of functions reporting into position, internal equity, budget, and/or business and organizational needs.
