About the Position

Digital Strategy, Digital Solutions and the Digital Factory

Digital is a key factor for our solutions to effectively contribute to the advancement of patient care, and therefore, a strategic priority for Werfen.

We are creating a new Digital Solutions unit to lead our digital transformation so that we are better positioned to achieve our Purpose of advancing patient care and laboratory diagnostics.

As part of this transformation, we are creating the Digital Factory. The Digital Factory, based in Bedford, is a cross-functional team within Digital Solutions, driven by agile ways of working, creative problem-solving, empowered decision making and collaboration with subject matter experts across the organization to develop innovative digital solutions.

Job Summary

An Expert Solution Leader owns strategy and delivery for a given solution or multiple solutions, end to end, which includes guiding the work of one or multiple delivery squads associated with the solution. An Expert Solution Leader creates a solution roadmap and defines the strategic vision for their team driven by the overall vision. They have a deep understanding of the target market/industry and build close relationships with key stakeholders to ensure that the team’s effort is aligned with the overall strategy. An Expert Senior Solution Leader manages dependencies within their delivery team while identifying, building and managing strategic partnerships across different teams. They work closely within their team to ensure business value and that user feedback is translated into new developments when necessary. An Expert Senior Solution Leader has deep domain knowledge of complex solutions and will be accountable for specific business KPIs based on the area of the product they are focused on.

Key Accountabilities

  • Leads agile squad(s) and works onsite with the team on a daily basis
  • May manage a small team of Solution Leaders across a given domain such as Clinical Excellence or Remote Services
  • Sets ambitious and clear product vision and communicates it effectively to the team, the rest of the Digital Solutions unit as well as other stakeholders
  • Develops end-to-end team output strategy from inception to production
  • Collaborates with stakeholders, such as business and technical, to ensure the digital vision and products align within business strategy and requirements
  • Accountable for product-specific KPIs once the solution enters production; communicates regular tracking to stakeholders
  • Utilizes market and industry knowledge to translate user needs into user stories and acceptance criteria for their team. Maintains a backlog 3-4 sprints ahead of the team
  • Works closely with Digital Business Strategy to establish each product’s business value; supports messaging, communication and customer outreach as necessary
  • Facilitates release planning with stakeholders as well as frequent / (bi-)weekly demos
  • Integrates usability studies and research into product requirements to enhance user satisfaction and ensure customer-driven design
  • Aligns outward-facing product requirements and stakeholders
  • Sets the go-to-market strategy and collaborates with appropriate stakeholders to direct and deliver on go-to-market activities, such as the development of the marketing plan, sales tools and training
     

Networking/Key relationships

This position will work closely with all groups within the Digital Solutions Unit, as well as Marketing, Service, Medical Affairs, R&D and other functions across the organization to effectively drive solutions forward.   

Minimum Knowledge & Experience required for the position:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Science, Engineering or Business Administration, or equivalent
  • 10-12 years of relevant work experience, within the healthcare industry preferred
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience with agile and scrum, preferred
  • MBA, preferred

Skills & Capabilities:

Domain Expertise:

  • Proven knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the relevant industry
  • Strong collaborator with experience working in cross-functional teams from tech, design, and business
  • Experience with B2C digital products
  • Understanding and knowledge of various roles in regulated industries and how they interact with product offering
  • Understanding of laboratory and clinical workflows as it pertains to diagnostics preferred

Agile/Digital Experience

  • Experience in facilitating agile ceremonies, managing a backlog/release plan, tracking team level metrics, removing blockers (burndown chart, release burn up, etc.), preferred
  • Experience in leading teams, preferably in an agile setting

Travel requirements:

Up to 25% of the time.

People Manager Accountabilities:

Effectively carries out the expectations of Werfen People Managers as defined in Werfen’s Role of the Manager program. Among others this includes maintaining regular, at minimum once a month, and transparent communication with the team through effective use of formal one-on-one meetings with direct reports and team meets. Managing performance issues and conflict proactively; uses judgement in consulting with department leadership and Human Resources. Responsibility for the team´s compliance in terms of training, and fulfillment of their tasks and objectives
